2020 Science Education Open House

This year's Open House was scheduled for the end of April, but it was postponed due to COVID-19. We were pleased to transform our traditional event into a two-part online workshop, offered in July 2020; details on these workshops are below.

Academic Integrity and Inclusive Practices in Online Science Courses

July 30, 2020, 1:00pm-2:30pm

This session explored academic integrity in online courses and provided examples of how this issue has been approached by Science faculty. We also discussed how we can foster inclusion and community within our fall courses.

Roundtable Discussion: What I Did in My Online Summer Course

July 16, 2020, 1:00pm-2:30pm

Science faculty who taught courses this summer shared how they designed their lectures, assessments, and out-of-class activities in their accelerated online courses. Breakout rooms provided the opportunity to ask more direct questions to the instructors and gain feedback on planning.

Presenters:

  • Meghan Allen, Computer Science
  • Jennifer Klenz, Biology
  • Anka Lekhi, Chemistry
  • Georg Rieger, Physics and Astronomy
  • Karen Smith, Microbiology and Immunology

We continued with this online approach through the following academic year as Skylight's Online Teaching Series
