Demystifying Learning Analytics

This Science Education Supper Series session will explore the emerging and interdisciplinary field of learning analytics, its methods and potential. This session is structured into two parts. In part one, Leah will use examples and case studies to illustrate the range of stakeholders that learning analytics may serve, the diverse array of questions that emerge and require addressing, and the potential impact of learning analytics in higher education. Noureddine will discuss a variety methods for using learning analytics to investigate the aspects of (deep) learning processes, with specific reference to learning analytics methods such as: Natural Language Processing, Event flow analysis, Social Networks analysis. In part two, Gillian and Noureddine will facilitate and invite you, the participants, to explore the applications of learning analytics for our context, the UBC Faculty of Science.
